The Laziest Riders
I picked up a rider the other day.
As I swiped the app to indicate start of journey and also find out where he's going, I asked "So let's see where we are going today..."
He said "Tra-fal-gar".
I thought "Is that a new suburb? How far is that?"
The Dumb and The Lazy
I once picked up a woman at Abercrombie Street near Central Park.
It took me about 10 minutes to go around the block and find her - good thing I knew the shortcuts too otherwise it would have been even longer.
She took in a "No Stopping" zone expecting me to drive up to her and pick her up. I told her to come to me.
The Eastern Suburbs is a Black Hole
Driving in Eastern Suburbs is like driving into a black hole - once you get in, you don't get out!
I'm convinced the people in Eastern Suburbs don't get out of there very often - they all work in the city and that's about as far as they'd go to.
Once I drive into Eastern Suburbs, I spend a lot of time driving up and down New South Head Road, picking up and dropping people off "just down the road".
The Lady with a Sick Father
The people I meet while driving Uber are, say 90% of the time, polite.
60% of the time, it's fun - because the riders I had were engaging and fun.
40% of the time, it's just boring - because these people are boring, anti-social or down right have no manners.
Quite a number of them are women. Maybe they think male drivers automatically want to hit on them?
I picked up this lady from Royal North Shore Hospital. She was going to Manly. (About a 30-minute drive)
She got in the car, I asked "How are you?" and she answered "Good, thanks."
Silence.
Uh oh, here we go again. It's going to be a long ride.
The Kid with Good Manners
Last Friday morning I drove to pick up "Jimmy".
Jimmy turned out to be a student. His bus never came so he was running late for school. There was another school kid there and when Jimmy was about to get in the car, he asked Jimmy if he could come too. Jimmy said ok.
During the short trip, I found out that they just go to the same school, but not related. They were from China but from different cities.
It was obvious the kid never took Uber. He sat, fascinated, in the back seat.
