Stories from my Uber days

imdb

I drive Uber. I meet all kinds of people. Mostly good. Some bad. On this page I will post stories and thoughts from my Uber driving days. Have fun reading.

Gelato Messina - How I Became a Fan

I picked up a rider from a hotel. He said he's an events co-ordinator and his company was providing dessert for an event at this hotel. There'll be gelato involved later tonight.

Naturally, I asked about the name of the company.

"Messina", he said.

The next 20 minutes was one of the most educational rides of my life.

A Romantic Story...Worthy of a Movie

I drove James to the airport yesterday. He got into the car with 2 fully packed duffle bags.

As he was going to the airport, the most natural conversation opener is "where are you going?"

He chuckled a little and said "Helsinki".

Note the date of this post. It's January. The temperature yesterday was 25 degrees Celsius.

James: "Helsinki is minus 15 at the moment".

Me: "What are you doing going to Helsinki?" (I assumed he was going there for business - hence travelling light and going to Finland in the middle of winter.)

James: "To meet a girl." He chuckled again.

My Oldest Rider (Yet)

I have a soft spot for driving older folks. They are kind, gentle, polite and so nice.

The other day I went to pick up this lady. She came to the car being helped by a young lady.

She climbed into the car, asked if she could sit up front with me - "of course!" was my reply.

We started chatting and I was curious how old she was.

Dumbest Rider I've Ever Met

I came across the dumbest rider today and must be the absolute shortest ride.

I had to drive 10 minutes to "67 Albert Ave, Chatswood" to pick up the rider.

After I've arrived and waited for about 5 minutes, I received a text message: "There's a white car is that yous (sic)?"

That was 2:11pm.

I replied no. After a few more messages I called her. She said she's at the Interchange (train station). I told her I can't go there. I said I was at the address she specified.

Anna and the $50,000 Cartier bracelet

I was reminded of my very 2nd Uber rider - Anna and her $50,000 Cartier bracelet.

My very first day doing Uber. The first rider was very nice. He was waiting outside when I picked him up. We chatted along the way about how I'm he's my first rider and whatever. Dropped him off at the destination, 5 stars.

Off to my second rider - Anna.

I waited outside her place - for at least 5 minutes, not sure if I had the right address or if she's coming or what.
